It had been way to long since we saw family and friends in Arizona so we decided we'd take a good week vacation down to the valley of the Sun, and boy was it sunny! I believe the highest it got while we were there was around 117 degrees!! I forgot just how ridiculously hot that is. Thank heavens for AC and swimming pools.
We started our journey off on a Friday morning around 11am. We knew having a baby would make the drive longer so we planned to have the last half of our drive during Nixon's bedtime, hoping he would just fall sound asleep. For the most part our plan worked.
Just like his parents, Nixon was nervous about how this long car ride
was going to go.
trying to entertain a fussy baby
All smiles at the beginning of the trip (even though Lance isn't smiling he was happy)
Good thing we brought the nursing pillow
At the half way point and Nixon is just happy to be out of that car seat
We had to stop and pull off the road so I could feed Nixon because we were to far
out from the nearest city
Luckily Nixon only had one meltdown that lasted for about
30 minutes
We actually made pretty good time and got to my parents house around 10:30. Nixon was asleep in his car seat when we arrived but my dad couldn't resist giving him a kiss and woke him right up. Nixon knew how much his grandparents missed him and was nice about the whole thing.
Don't let that worried face fool you, he loved seeing his
Grandma and Grandpa Taylor
One thing we were very excited for was to go swimming! Especially to take Nixon swimming for the first time. He actually enjoyed swimming. Not so much putting his swim suit and sunscreen on though
Nixon's first swim
My parents had this nifty floaty thing that Nixon seemed to really enjoy
My good friend Trisha and her cute kids came over for a swim
Nixon sure loves his grandpa
swimming really wears you out
still a little small for swim diapers, but we didn't want to chance
it without having them
Ready for a swim
Diving contest
Lets just say Lance won most creative dives,
I had a hard time keeping up.
I was able to get a much needed hair make over, and my mom was
nice enough to come along and hang out with Nixon
While we were there we got to go on our first baby free date! My parents jumped at the opportunity to watch Nixon and let us have some time alone.
We saw 2 movies with my family while we were there and we brought Nixon to both of them. We were a little nervous on how it would all go down, but my parent's gladly offered to take Nixon out of the theater if he got too fussy. We could just see the worried faces of the people in the theater looking at us bringing in this baby to the movie. To our surprise Nixon slept through practically the whole movie both times and when he did wake up he just sat back and enjoyed the movie with the rest of us.
We had planned our trip so that we would be in Arizona over the 4th of July. I bought Nixon this cute 4th of July outfit but before lunch time came he had pooped out of it. Luckily I got a few cute pictures of him in it before that happened.
He loves talking to grandma
If there's one thing Lance loves to do during the summer it's barbecuing.
Gotta love a good 4th of July barbecue meal
The yummy and festive dessert my mom made
Nixon wished he could have some
It actually rained while we were there, but it only lasted about 15 minutes.
Even when it rains in Arizona you only need to wear a onesie
Just hanging out
Side note: For the past few months we have been debating whether we should get one of those really nice, big, black, expensive cameras. We knew it would be nice to have one of those cameras to take pictures of Nixon and future children, but those things aren't cheap. Lance had been looking on KSL and Craigslist for a while to see if we could find one in good condition for the price range we wanted, and lucky for us Lance found one in Gilbert. (which is just 20 minutes south of where my parents live) Though it is big and bulky it sure does take nice clear pictures. There are many buttons and things to learn about this camera but it will be worth it.
(I'm sure you can tell which photos were taken with our Iphones and which ones were taken with the Nikon)
Lance has never been to a professional baseball game before and there just so happened to be a Diamondbacks game playing while we were there.
Unfortunately we tried getting our tickets the day of the game and the game was sold out! According to my parents that hardly ever happens, just our luck.
We just had a relaxing night at home instead.
I think Nixon grew springs in his legs while we were in Arizona, he wouldn't stop jumping. The plus side to that is it gives you a good arm workout.
Hanging with his Uncles
I love this picture because of how creepy my sisters face looks :)
Getting acquainted with his Uncle Connor
He was pretty much just in his diaper the whole trip
Sadly the day came for our vacation to end. We had a great time seeing family and friends and it's always hard to leave.
Your car becomes a lot more packed when you travel with
a baby
Stretching our legs while getting some blizzards at Dairy Queen
Lately he has been fascinated with water bottles
