October Festivities

October marks the first month of the holiday season, which I love and am excited for! Now that Nixon is a year older he can better enjoy all the fun things that go on during the next 3 months, starting with all the fun things we did in October.

One thing I thought Nixon might enjoy was picking out pumpkins to carve.
There was a pumpkin patch right down the street from our house, so we decided to check it out.

We invited Nixon's cousins Ben and Clara (and parents) to join in on the pumpkin picking fun.

The kids were a little more interested in pushing Nixon in this wagon then finding pumpkins. but we were able to persuade them that pumpkin picking would be just as fun.

and off we went to find a pumpkin
Ross found this gem of a pumpkin (I think he decided against keeping it though)
Thinking of a strategy on how to pick up this pumpkin
Dad helped find a pumpkin more his size to pick up
love this picture :)

I had to post this cute family photo because of Ben's adorable smile :)
Lance came upon a rotting pumpkin that Nixon wanted to check out
It did not smell to good
So many pumpkins to choose from
Making sure we document Jaxon's presence. Next year he'll have more say on the pumpkins to pick.

Next to the pumpkin patch sat this old truck that immediately caught Nixon's attention.
He was happier playing in this truck then he was picking pumpkins.
He'll be 16 before I know it and will be begging for his own truck to drive
In the end pumpkin picking wasn't as big of a hit as I was hoping it would be for Nixon, but I still had high hopes for the carving part.
The carving party took place a week or so after the pumpkin picking. We didn't end up getting a pumpkin at the patch (a little too pricey for our liking) so Ross and Megan were nice enough to let us carve a few of theirs.
That's the face of a boy excited to carve a pumpkin
but sadly Nixon quickly lost interest and we basically had to glue him to the chair so he could just be apart of the carving atmosphere.
Love these boys of mine!

Ben wearing his pumpkin hat. It was later used as an iron and he walked around "ironing" people with the pumpkin top. :)
One of the pumpkins Lance took on to carve.
It takes a sturdy had and a strong mind to carve a masterpiece into a pumpkin this size.

I love the pumpkin size differences as well as the tools used to carve the pumpkins between Ross and Lance :)

voila!- his greatest masterpiece yet
It's actually very impressive how well that pumpkins face turned out. I mean look how tiny that pumpkin is!

We tried to force Nixon into sticking his hand into the pumpkin or just to touch the seeds in general (we're actually very loving parents) but we only got him to hold the pumpkin top.

Jaxon's first pumpkin carving party. He had a good time.
(That smile kills me :)

One thing I love, love, LOVE is a good caramel apple! and my sister-in-law Megan provided a caramel apple making buffet just for me. (and maybe everyone else)

Nixon didn't care for the healthy apple, all he wanted were the delicious toppings.

me and Lance's caramel apple creations. Boy were they delicious!!
Poor Jaxon had no warning that this was going to happen. He was a little bigger than we thought  and we were only able to get his bottom half inside the pumpkin. He wasn't a fan of it but he put on a brave (and cute) face for the camera.
Photo bombed by Nixon
The cute kids and the finished pumpkins.

For family home evening one Monday we decided to drive the Alpine Loop thats by our house and look at all the pretty leaves changing. We probably waited a week too long because most of the leaves had fallen off by the time we drove through, but there were still enough pretty colored leaves left to take some cute pictures.
Along the drive we would pull off to the side of the road and let Nixon run around. This kid LOVES the great outdoors.

My sweet boy (and such pretty yellow trees in the back)
my other sweet boy had to stay in the car, I don't think he was too mad being left in the nice warm car.

Nixon having the time of his life

Dad's turn to take Nixon on an adventure. I'm already excited for Nixon to go on his first father son campout!

He's such a cheeser

This kid and his love for rocks

We didn't really document Jaxon in our outdoor adventure, so Ill just include this adorable picture.
I've said it before and ill say it again, Lance has some mean photography skills! Just take a gander at these beauts!

Another wonderful October festivity we partook in was my birthday celebration. :)

It fell on a Saturday this year and boy did Lance take full advantage of that and spoil me.

It all began with a delicious breakfast at Waffle love. I don't know what they put in these things and quite frankly I don't care because they do my tummy good. :)

Later that day we dropped off the boys at my sister-in-law Megan's house and went to check out the Body Worlds exhibit that was being displayed in Salt Lake. I had been to one of these exhibits about 6 years ago and LOVED it! I have always found the human body to be so fascinating and love learning about all the incredible things it does, so when I found out the exhibit would be in town over my birthday I HAD to go. Lance was sweet enough to grant me this birthday request.

The exhibit lived up to my expectations!

After the exhibit we had dinner at yummy Tucanos. We then walked around the Gateway mall and got caramel apples and I got a little shopping spree.
Like I said, spoiled! :)

After our fun day up in Salt Lake we picked up the boys and headed home, but the fun wasn't over. Once we got home we put the boys to bed and let the party continue.
It was an awesome birthday thanks to my sweet husband! (and to Ross and Megan for watching our boys :)
